What Size Carport Do I Need?
Choosing the right carport size is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. A carport that is too narrow can make it difficult to park and open your doors, while one that is too short may leave your vehicle exposed to the weather.

Recommended Carport Widths
Here are some general recommendations based on the vehicles you plan to protect:
12’ Wide Carport
A 12-foot-wide carport is ideal for a single car. It provides enough room for most sedans and compact SUVs while keeping the overall footprint small.
18’ Wide Carport
An 18-foot-wide carport is a great choice for one full-size vehicle. It offers noticeably more room to park and makes getting in and out of your vehicle much easier.
20’ Wide Carport
A 20-foot-wide carport works well for two smaller vehicles, such as compact cars, midsize sedans, or smaller SUVs.
22’ Wide Carport
A 22-foot-wide carport is an excellent option if you need to cover one small vehicle and one full-size truck or SUV.
24’ Wide and Larger
If you’re protecting two full-size vehicles, we recommend starting with a 24-foot-wide carport. Larger widths provide even more room for comfortable parking and everyday use.
Our advice: When choosing a width, wider is almost always better. The extra space makes parking easier, gives you more room to open doors, helps prevent door dings, and simply makes the carport more enjoyable to use.
Choosing the Right Length
Most passenger vehicles fit comfortably under a 20-foot-long carport. For many homeowners, this is the perfect balance of protection and value.
If you own a crew cab long bed pickup, we generally recommend stepping up to a 25-foot-long carport to ensure the entire vehicle is protected from the elements.
One of the biggest advantages of adding extra length is the additional covered storage it creates. Even an extra five or ten feet gives you space for lawn mowers, ATVs, motorcycles, bicycles, trash cans, firewood, or other outdoor equipment without taking away parking space for your vehicle.
